Best Cartridge impedance for IN 7: XLR MC transformer input module (Phono Module)

Beitrag von Jorge Ferreira » Fr 19. Mai 2023, 10:49

I have a Octave Phono Module with the IN 7: XLR MC transformer input module.

What are the most recommended cartridge impedance for this module ?

The IN 7: XLR MC transformer input module have in the specifications :
Cartridge Resistance 3 - 25 Ohm

But what would be the ideal cartridge impedance to have the optimal load ?

Thank you,
Jorge Ferreira

The Manual of my IN 7 (that came with the module) have on it :
Cartridge Resistance 1 - 25 Ohm

Why is that ?
It was 3-25 now is 1-25, Octave changed anything on the manufacture of this module ?

Hi,
The information in the manual is correct.
The IN7 Module also works excellently within our
specifications with 1 ohm.
Best regards
Michael

OK Thanks.

At first, when I bought the Octave Phono Module I got only the IN 3: XLR MC input module (that have an excellent sound quality for the price), and I used this one for a while with my Linn Krystal MC Cartridge with the module configured with the usual 100 Ohms.
It was Great Sound for the money !!!

But then I wanted to improve and prepare the Octave Phono Module for a more expensive and lower internal impedance cartridge.
That's when I got also the IN 7: XLR MC Step Up Transformer Module, now I have both input modules.

But I still have the Linn Krystal cartridge,
at first listenings the IN 3 was mutch better than the IN 7 (with the Linn Krystal of course),
the IN 7 was litle bit fuzzy at the high frequencies compared with the IN 3.

With the Burn In of the IN 7 (it played only 30 hours or less) now I think the IN 7 is becoming to be clearly better than the IN 3 (even with the Linn Krystal).

What is usually the burn in time for the IN 7 ? How many hours it will take to stop improving ?
